- visual basic programming language uses both an interpreter and a compiler.
- the programmer can use the interpreter during program development.
- when the program is complete and error free, the programmer can compile the program so it runs faster when it is placed into production for users to execute.

Virtual Reality
- Virtual reality is the example of multimedia technology which uses non-linear interactivity.
- Advanced virtual reality systems allow users to respond and interact in many ways to its virtual surroundings.
- In Geography, virtual reality can recreate places and enviroment for we to interact with. Viewing exploration programs, like Discovery and Animal Planet will be even more interesting.
- This is because we will be able to enter different environments virtually and interact with surroundings. We can learn at our own pace and level of understanding.

Differences linear & non-linear interactivity
Linear Interactivity
- user interacts with the multimedia application without controlling the progress of the content.
- user is a passive receiver.
- the linear content is arranged in sequence.
- ex: movie
- two-way communication
- user can control the progress and sequence of the multimedia content by using buttons or links.
- uses tools like hypertext or hypermedia to connect different media to another screen.
- ex: electronic book
